Participatory, Collaborative & immersive learning experience

Virtual Gurukul Dec 1st to Dec. 6th, 2012
On Site Gurukul Dec 8th to Dec. 15th, 2012 (participant must arrive at IIT Kanpur Campus by Dec 8th)

USID Gurukul 2012 is 3rd in series of Gurukul which is being organised by USID Foundation in Partnership with Design Programme & Dept. of Humanites and Social Sciences of IIT Kanpur . USID Gurukul is an inspiration taken from "Gurukul", a school concept from the ancient times in India. USID Gurukul 2012 will bring together around 50 students (Shishyas) selected from India as well as other countries representing the students and professionals from the disciplines of Design, Technology, Management and Social Sciences. These Shishyas will attend the Gurukul for a period of 2 weeks and will learn under the mentorship of eminent academicians & researchers and experienced practitioners (Gurus) representing a variety of institutes, organizations and industry domains.

USID Gurukul 2012 Mission:

To provide a platform for students from the varied fields of design, technology , management and social sciences to go through a two weeks experience of collaborative and immersive learning.
To provide a platform for students to Collaborate, Explore, Experience, Learn and Create, design solution for existing social problems under the mentorship of accomplished practitioners, researchers, academicians and professionals which would then facilitate social-economic development and better quality of life.
Involve the local people in the design and solution finding process by practicing participatory design.
Involve academia, industry, government personnel, media, and non-design professionals to provide an adequate ambience for the students to understand the importance of social context in design. Focus on identifying real life socio-economic problems and explore design solution through collaborative and immersive approach.

Old population and generation gap

To encourage a collaborative and immersive learning experience, the Shishyas will divided into teams of 6 to 8 with each team having a mix of design, technology, management and social science students and professionals as well as well representatives from local population. A group of Mentors (Gurus) representing academics and practice will mentor these teams to achieve realistic goals over a period of 2 weeks.
